In Shippuden, almost 500 episodes later, there was a flashback to the original Naruto where Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura attempted to uncover what Kakashi looks like under his mask. Here in the so episode, Naruto recruited a photographer named Sukea who overheared the plan and helped to capture the moment of Kakashi’s face reveal on film. After numerous failed attempts, Sukea leaves for his apartment peeling back his disguise to reveal he was Kakashi all along. After peeling off his disguise, viewers finally got a glimpse of Kakashi Hatake without his mask for the first time.

The face reveal thing was arguably more interesting throughout the actual reveal itself. If Kakashi Hatake without his mask had been revealed earlier in the series, the mystery would have been spent without adding any new intrigue to the story.
